Residential Life at Mt. Adams
During the season, members develop a close-knit community amongst their teammates by living and working together. As many of the projects require the teams to travel extensively throughout Washington and Oregon, members should expect to live out of their backpacks for extended periods of time. While this itinerant lifestyle can prove challenging, it also allows for exploring some of the Nortwest most pristine landscapes. In the past, teams have spiked (camped) on the coastal shores of the Olympic Peninsula, the alpine expanse of Mt. Saint Helens and the high desert of Central Oregon.
When members serve on projects located near Trout Lake or in times between projects members stay in three bunkhouses tucked amongst tall ponderosa pines at the Mt Adams Center.
As for recreation, the opportunities abound with our immediate access to the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, the Wild and Scenic White Salmon River and the 12,000+ foot Mt. Adams. You can swim or boat in glacier-fed waters, test out your mountaineering skills on the mountain, bike the country lanes and single track of the area and enjoy walks through the wildflower blossoms of the alpine meadows.
